SAFEGUARDING

Our Foundation

Every person has value and dignity, which comes directly from being created in God’s image. Christians believe this potential is fulfilled through God’s re-creation of us in Christ. This understanding calls us to value all people and to protect them from harm.

NOMAD operates within the safeguarding framework of the Church of England and the Diocese of Norwich, following their safeguarding policies and guidance.

We commit to:

  • Nurturing, protecting, and safeguarding all participants, particularly children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

  • Recognising that safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone involved in the life of the church.

  • Exercising proper care in the selection, appointment, training, and support of those working with children, young people, and vulnerable adults (following the Safer Recruitment and People Management Code of Practice | The Church of England).

  • Responding without delay to any concern or allegation that a person, adult or child, may have been harmed, and cooperating fully in any investigation.

  • Challenging abuse of power by anyone in a position of trust.

  • Offering pastoral care to anyone who has suffered abuse.

  • Providing pastoral care and support, including supervision and referral to appropriate authorities, to any person known to have offended against a child, young person, or vulnerable adult.

Further Guidance

Further guidance can be found in the safeguarding policies and practice guidance of the Church of England (Safeguarding: A Safer Church | The Church of England).

The Parish Safeguarding Toolkit (Parish Safeguarding Resources | The Church of England) produced by the national church provides further advice on responding to concerns and implementing good safeguarding practice.

More detailed safeguarding information is available through the Diocese of Norwich (Safeguarding - Diocese of Norwich) and through local church safeguarding policies.

NOMAD Practitioners and Local Church Safeguarding

NOMAD practitioners typically operate within the context of a local church or parish setting.

Where NOMAD practitioners are contracted, commissioned, or serving within a local church, they will also operate under that local church’s safeguarding policy and procedures, in addition to the safeguarding framework of the Diocese of Norwich.

This ensures that safeguarding accountability is maintained at both the diocesan level and the local parish level, and that all safeguarding concerns are handled in line with established Church of England safeguarding policies and protocols.

This statement will be reviewed annually and updated in line with guidance from the Church of England and the Diocese of Norwich.
